6 Elements that Set Apart our Company Culture

When it comes to organizational health, culture highly influences a company’s success.  Strong company culture does not come from one individual person within the company but from the collaboration of everyone. When a company’s employees are fully capable of working together as a team, the force of those combined efforts produces unique results – results that are rooted in collaboration and diversity of thought.

1. Our management team understands that everyone has something to contribute

Butler Technologies, Inc., oftentimes referred to as BTI, is a woman-owned business. We understand everybody has something to contribute, because of, and regardless of, their different walks of life. BTI fosters a culture of acceptance and inclusion that we strictly adhere to because we know differences are what makes us unique as individuals, and those differences oftentimes lead to unique thoughts, perspectives, and contributions within the organization.

We also understand that good ideas don’t always have to be generated solely from the Leadership Team, but that good ideas can be generated from anyone within our organization. Management encourages input from all employees through an “open door” policy, “walk-around” management style, and employee satisfaction surveys. Because management is not involved with the day-to-day tasks associated with all positions within the company, those who are involved have opportunities to share their ideas for improvements and positive changes.

2. Our company has a unique management style

A while back, BTI implemented the Entrepreneurial Operating System, or EOS, into our management style. EOS is a set of best practices and tools that have helped to have a lasting impact on the overall health of our organization – including culture, growth and financial stability. EOS has helped to establish the Vision, Traction, and Accountability for our company.

Establishing and publishing a clear vision has helped to ensure everyone within the organization is on the same page for future goals and the ultimate direction the company chooses to pursue. The traction process lays out a roadmap to document and achieve individual and team goals and instills a sense of accountability and responsibility among employees so we can work together toward realizing the company’s goals and vision.

Another major impact that EOS has had on our organization is that it has helped us to create a healthy, functional culture of accountability.  Our Department Leaders conduct weekly meetings with their teams where we share our progress on tasks we’re working on, establish and review our goals, and address any situations that team members may need help with. It provides employees a haven to ask for help and to not feel intimidated by doing so. By implementing EOS, our company has become much more uniform and collaborative, which has helped us to gain the great company culture we have today.

3. Our employees are hired in alignment with our goals and values

Here at BTI, our core values are to be united, passionate, accountable, honest, and curious. Our core values are the forefront of the organization, – who we are, and what we stand for. We know processes can be taught, but you can’t teach values.  Because of this, the hiring process for our employees is aimed at hiring individuals who correlate strongly with our values.

We realize that one bad influence can have a lasting effect on everyone in an organization, which is why we hire like-minded individuals with similar goals to those of the company.  By having a team of individuals all aimed toward achieving the same goals and holding true to the same values, it helps to create a strong company culture and helps us to have not only a closer-knit company but also helps us to have higher productivity within the company.

4. We work together as a team

TeamOur company is a united team. We have a diverse group of employees who come from different walks of life. Because of this, we are able to generate different ideas and have different viewpoints, while also being respectful to each other.

We work together to collaborate on goals that we need to reach, and we are readily available to help each other whenever help is needed. We understand that communication is key. We work together to encourage and empower others. We know that by working together, rather than individually, we can achieve considerably more. Just as the saying, “Two heads are better than one”, the same goes for our company because our goals are only attainable through collaboration and teamwork.

5. Our team is experienced and knowledgeable

Here at BTI, our team is very knowledgeable. We have individuals on our team who have been here for varying years and can tackle nearly any obstacle tossed at them. In fact, nearly 20% of our team has been with our company for 15 years or more.

When we hire new employees, those experienced individuals are available to answer any questions that new employees may have. Not only are our veteran employees readily available to help, but our management team is as well. By keeping an open communication path among all team members, it helps us to be better and to do better as a company.

6. We give recognition where it’s due

We know that employees lose their motivation when goals are unrealistic or unattainable. That is why we set realistic goals for our employees, and when those goals are met, we give credit where its due. We have a system in place where we reward employees who deserve special recognition for their accomplishments.

Alongside reaching goals, we provide “Employee Spotlights” where we pick a key player within our organization and give them the recognition they deserve. Not only is the employee internally recognized, but we spotlight them on our social media platforms, too, in order to bring notice to their hard work and dedication to our company.

Final thoughts:

Having a positive company culture isn’t a hard task to grasp. It’s all about creating an open and honest working environment where employees feel that they’re making a difference and are important to the company’s success. Every individual employee has a purpose within a company, and it’s the company’s responsibility to ensure those employees are recognized and know their value. Once a strong company culture is attained, it’s not long until the company culture transitions to a family culture, and a family culture is the greatest attainable success a company can have.
